The Obituary of Debra Mann Fludd
Surrounded by her loving family and in perfect peace, Reverend Debra Mann Fludd, 66, of Norwalk, CT, the beloved daughter of Harriet J. Mann and the late Leslie E. Mann, was escorted by angels from this life into the eternal presence of God on Friday, July 21, 2023.
Rev. Fludd was born Debra Jane Mann in Belhaven, North Carolina on September 24, 1956. The family relocated to Norwalk, Connecticut in 1958. She was educated in the Norwalk Public School System, graduating from Brien McMahon High School in 1974. She extended her studies to include graduation from the Hartford Seminary, Black Ministries Program. Debra was employed by the Norwalk Hospital for 45 years until her retirement at which time she devoted herself full time to the work of Ministry. She was awarded the Norwalk Hospital Chairman’s Award for Excellence and Service in 1987 and 1990. She met her would-be husband, George Fludd, as he was riding past her house on a red bicycle. He stopped, they talked and the rest is history, as they remained married and in love for the rest of her life.
Debra accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of twelve (12). She was Baptized at Calvary Baptist Church, Norwalk, Connecticut by The late Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Williams, Pastor. At Calvary she served on the Willing Workers Club and sang in the choir. She has continuously continued her walk with the Lord uniting with the New Light Missionary Baptist Church on June 4, 1989, serving under the leadership of the Rev. Dr Phillip Charles Joubert, Sr. Debra has been actively involved at New Light for over thirty years in a wide variety of leadership capacities; as a Missionary, Trustee, Deacon, Administrative Assistant, Associate Minister and Pastor. She was ordained to the Diaconate Ministry on October 26, 1997, licensed as a Missionary on January 31, 2001, and ordained to the Gospel Ministry on Sunday, October 5th, 2003.
With a focus always on faith and family, Debra led a life that proved her faithfulness over and over again. She was faithful to God, always placing Him first in everything she did and depending on Him completely to fulfill her every need. She was faithful in the raising of her two sons into manhood, and then doing it again in the raising of her niece and nephew into adulthood. She was faithful to her job, to her church, to her Pastor, to her fellow congregants and to her co-laborers in Ministry. Debra loved her family and her family loved her. She was a calm, loving and steady presence. Debra was a gifted multi-tasker even before it was a thing, as she successfully managed the important things of life. As busy as she was, however, she could always find time to engage in a few self-indulgent activities, which included visits to tag sales, thrift shops and the Pennsylvania Dutch Country.
Rev. Fludd has been an active member of the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship of Norwalk and Vicinity and the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention. She has been faithful to the Great Commission and has preached and taught in many places, including traveling in support of Foreign Missions to Barbados, Trinidad, and Jamaica, West Indies on many occasions. Additionally, she has journeyed to the Holy Land/Israel on two separate occasions, which was an inspiring and life changing experience for her. She believed that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can touch the untouchable, move the unmovable, reach the unreachable, and that you can conquer anything.
